When beginning to learn how to golf, focus on the drive. The drive will put you in a good position either for a putt, or a second shot then a putt. If you can’t get it close to the fairway on your drive, your drive needs work. Having a good drive can lower your score tremendously.

A helpful tip when it comes to golf is to not always play with a full set of clubs. Most often this is unnecessary and will only result in a heavier bag for you or your caddie to lug around. Use the clubs that you perform strongest with and leave out the ones that might be overkill for a particular course.

Once you have taught yourself to consistently hit the ball, next is to get your swing down right. Think of the club as the pendulum in a grandfather clock. Practice swinging your club from side to side like the pendulum. Remember, it doesn’t take a lot of force to drive the ball far. It takes consistency and accuracy when hitting the ball. People as old as 80 can out drive someone twice their strength because it is all about consistency and accuracy.

When putting, imagine that your putter is like the pendulum of a grandfather clock. It’s like an extension of your body that moves free. Almost no force needs to be exerted in a putt. Simply lift the club to the desired distance on the pendulum swing and that let your arm muscles go. For every inch back that you lift your putter back, you will get a foot of distance from the golf ball.

Be sure that you check the grip before buying a golf club. Look for signs that the club has too much previous use, such as cracks, splits or a worn look. Buying a golf club that needs re-gripping will be an inconvenience for you and end up costing you more money.

Check your grip on the club before you make your swing. Your thumbs will be pointing downwards, and the handle will fit right in your palms. Your two hands should touch each other. For a longer drive, hold the handle a but higher up.
